Working on Student Visa
« on: December 30, 2004, 05:36:41 PM »
I've seen lots of conflicting information on whether one can legally work up to 20 hours/week on a student visa in Spain.

Has anyone found an official answer to this question?

Is there a website where you can look up Spain's laws and get it from the caballo's mouth? (Such sites exist for U.S./state government here.)

Desperately seeking answer,

Tyler

(My apologies for the tasteless Spanglish cliche above.)

I still haven't found the definite answer, but according to this website (below) it appears to be possible to work part-time on a student visa. I'm just not sure what all the hoops are. And while I know some Spanish, I wouldn't bet my life on my interpretation of Spanish legalese.

Me quiero ir a estudiar a España: Estudiar y trabajar

(In Spanish)

Me quiero ir a vivir a España: Especial: Ley de Extranjería

(In Spanish)

Eureka! De la boca del caballo:

ESTUDIANTES EXTRANJEROS: AUTORIZACIONES PARA TRABAJAR
http://www.mir.es/extranje/reggral/estudia2.htm#auto
(In Spanish)

According to this Spanish Ministry of the Interior website, my interpretation is that one can work on a student visa as long as it does not interfere with studies and the work is not used to directly fund the studies.

Would any fluent Spanish speakers mind verifying my remedial interpretation please?

Tyler

PS  I do realize I pretty much answered my own question, but I wanted to share the information on the forum for others trying to find out if the student visa route was plausible.
