The last time we posted a new article dealing with the topic of 'siestas' you all already started a still popular thread on it.

This time, I'm running to the Forum before anyone else to tell you that we've just posted a new piece dealing with the topic of teacher training and TEFL Quality Assurance.

To read that piece on the main Expatriate Café site, simply CLICK HERE.

Enjoy!  :D

Okay, we just finished feeding and cleaning this guy --->

I took some time before that though to prepare a fantastic new article that was prepared for us by our on the scene 'enchufe' (contact) en Sevilla: Sarah Gemba.  B) (Just in time for the 'Feria de Abril' too!)

Sarah has put together a bird's eye view of the teaching and living experience in Sevilla that is a must read. To read her article: ---> ¡¡CLICK HERE!! [---.

Thank you for this Sarah!  :D  B)

Actually, SaritaSevilla, the thanks go to YOU for taking the time to write the article and share a bit of your \"Experiencia Española\" with the rest of the ExpatriateCafé forum readers.

It is nice to see that the ExpatriateCafe reaches into all corners of Spain! While many people only consider Madrid and Barcelona as the \"teaching meccas\" we are pleased to see that you are carving a life out for yourself in Sevilla.

If there are any other Expats out there living in a far, or near, corner of Spain, and would like to write an article to be published on the front page, do not hesitate to get in touch with either Tony or me. Or, if instead of a geographical focus, you would like to focus your article on a specific English teaching topic, or other expat life focus, let us know!  :)
PASS IT ON! Has the information on this board been helpful to you? If so, please pass it on! Tell others about the website, share your comments and insights! If we can improve, please tell us!

It gives me great pleasure to announce the addition of a new.....

PICTURE???? .....

....Oooops. Sorry!  :D  This proud father stuff gets the best of me sometimes.  ;)  I meant to say that, 'It gives me great pleasure to announce the addition of a new....'

.... ARTICLE!! to the front page of the main Expatriate Café site called: An Insider's Account of the Madrid TEFL Scene (CLICK HERE) written within the Café community by our very own Megan Smoker!  B)

What's really neat and valuable about this piece is that Megan has rolled the answers to a myriad of your typical important first time post, newbie Café Forum member queries into one easy to read article. It's a must read for those wanting a front-line, bird's eye view of what the teaching scene is like in Madrid from somebody who's been here, is here and is doing it! Thank you Megan!    B)

Hi Tony,
I just found this section of the Forum -don't know how I'd missed it previously.  Congratulations to you and your wife for having such a gorgeous little boy!
No wonder you posted his pictures here -he's fabulous! (and I'm not a gooey baby fan either, but thanks for sharing him with all of us - his great smile really cheers me up!

Does he have a name, BTW?  Would a joint U.S./Spanish passport help or hinder him, if ever he wanted to follow in his parents' footsteps, and aim to teach English in Spain?  Would he be liable for national service, for example? :(

On a different note - many thanks to Sarah, for her excellent article on Seville! I'm still not sure where I'll end up, when I finally get to Spain, but Seville's so beautiful! Lots of useful detail was included, too, which was very helpful, for we prospective teachers!

Last night, I watched a T.V. prog. on 'style in European cities', and Seville was the focus. The footage showed designers, artists and their galleries, shops, restaurants, cafes and houses, as well as panoramic views across the city - magical!  B)
Sarah's so lucky to be settled there!

Bye for now,
Zorrasabia.

Thank you for kind words zorrasabia. He cheers me up too. His name is: Danny!

On the subject of dual-citizenship, neither the US or Spain recognize dual citizenship from the other country except in one case: minors. If one parent is American and the other is Spanish (as is the case with our twp children), they are legally permitted to hold both a US and a Spanish passport until 18 years of age. At that point they would be legally required to choose one or the other. However, I've heard of cases where people simply continue to renew both passports when necessary without incident. May be kind of risky though. Who knows?

Regarding national, required military service (aka- la P@*a Mili :P ), that was done away with within the past five years. Males over 18 years of age are no longer required to give a year of military service to the Spanish government as their fathers and grandfathers were. ¡Menos Mal!

Ooops, I've gone off topic :o , you're right, we do have some wise, experienced members in our midst. Our last few articles have come exclusively from the Café Forum faithful. We're proud of that and we have plans to do more of the same. I might add that Rebecca, Michelle and I would be happy to review any articles put together for our 'pandilla' (gang) by anyone else out there. Feel free to contact us if you want to put something together dealing with some sort of aspect of Spain, be it teaching, living, working, visiting or whathaveyou!     ;)  B)

Okay, no new pictures this time but we do have a phenomenal new article contriubued by the Café's very own Ian O'Carroll B). Ian's article: I'm in Madrid! Now what? (CLICK HERE) is a great first hand perspective of Ian's own experiences in Madrid finding accomadation and is a must read!

Thank you for this Ian and we look forward to receiving more like this from you in the future... (Do I hear a 'series' in the works!?)  ;)

Enjoy the article folks!

As I was surfing the site a little bit today, I had the sneaky suspicion that I'd forgotten to do something. I looked around the house. Everything looked alright. I checked to make sure I was wearing clean underwear and socks. Check. I checked to see if my email correspondence were up to date. Check.

I continued surfing the site and looked at the online list. Aha!   Café member Mikahl had recently been reading the New Articles thread, o sea, THIS ONE!  :o I then remembered that I'd published a new article yesterday but hadn't posted about it. Serious props out to Mikahl for intuitively going to the New Articles! thread and check up on me!  :D Way to go my friend!  B)

So, without any further adoo, may I formally announce a fantastic piece written by our very own Elizabeth Carr-Ellis (aka - lizziee) titled: TEFL, Spain and the Café. Please read this piece dealing with Elizabeth's own experience preparing herself to teach in Spain. Thank you so much for writing this piece madam! Though it be your first for us, may it not be your last! B)

Okay, we've been busy over the past year. Both board administrators (Rebecca and myself) have new additions to the family and we've admittedly fallen out a bit this past year on adding new articles to the main Expatriate Café website.  :o (There's more to us than just the Forums, you know! ;) )

Fortunately for us though, we have a lot of great friends and contributors to this site out there looking out for us. (Yes, I'm talking about ALL OF YOU! ) However, one of you has taken this deficiency to heart. I'm talking about our friend, Phil... aka-Sticky. His team at MAPLanguages.com have prepared a series of articles of their own. We will be including these little by little over the coming months.

The first of these articles has just been published on the main page. It is titled: An American Flamenco Musician in Spain. You can read this article by ¡¡CLICKING HERE!![/font].

Thanks for your patience with us, Phil.  B)  Enjoy the article everyone!

Hello Everyone!

After a brief lapse in keeping the front page updated I am pleased to announce that there is a new article to read! This one is especially interesting for all those who are applying or considering applying to be a Language/Cultural Assistant.

Our own Stacy Limones, one of the forum leaders for the North American Language and Cultural Assistant thread, has generously taken the time to write about her first year experience with this challenging yet exciting program sponsored by the Ministro de Educación y Cultura.

You can read all about her experiences HERE

I thought I would also take this opportunity to put a call out to all closet writers. Do you have some thoughts/experiences to share about Spain? Would you like to write an article for our front page and have it published (nice resume builder)? Send me a PM with some of your ideas about what you would like to write about and we will \"talk\"! I would be especially interested in hearing from those outside the biggies (outside Madrid, Barcelona or Seville).

Have you had a bad experience in Spain? Well, you could write about that as well. Here at the Café we like to provide our members with all perspectives of living in this wonderful, invigorating and, at times, extremely exasperating country!
