Residency/work permission and quitting a job
« on: August 23, 2002, 09:21:00 PM »
Coming right to the point, I am very unhappy with my current job in madrid

and am considering quitting eventhough I haven\'t found a new job yet. I want

to stay here in Madrid. Job bad - Spain good. My questions are:

By quitting, do I forfeit my permit for work and residency?

What about access to National Health?

I\'ve been with this company for over 3 years now. They hired me from the

States and sponsered me for my work/residency (type cuenta ajena) which is

valid now until 2004.

If no one has answers to these questions, can they please recommend an

advisor for me?

Thanks much,

Erica [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif\"]

Hello Erica,

I\'d definitely go right to the INEM office closest to you-- They are generally able to advice you and help you on that specific matter. I don\'t believe your health/medical benefits are effected if you quit, especially if you have residency. But I would ask anyway.

Good Luck!

After posting this query, I found that my boyfriend actually has a lawyer friend here in Madrid who specializes in work-related issues. Can you say serendipity?  [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif\"]  Anyway, we are supposed to meet on Friday when I have a clearer view of what I am doing. When I get some useful answers, I will post them to the original message.

Thanks for your input Tracy, if I am left with some questions, I will go to INEM (as much as I hate those offices).[addsig]
