Hi there Language Professionals...
Our English Learning Center and a Madrid based translation company have been working on something over the last few months that has the potential to be a wonderful and quite significant opportunity for fluent English and Spanish speakers living here in Madrid.
I had a meeting last week with a gentleman who is an in-house, official translator & English Teacher for Telefónica & Terra Mobile as well as the British Council. He is working with Telefónica internally on a bit of a new twist to the traditional idea of teaching \\\'English Company Classes\\\' and has asked me to help him get this off the ground as well as create a Partnership between his organization and ours [!-- BBCode u2 Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.englishunlimited.net\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]WWW.EnglishUnlimited.NET[/A][!-- BBCode u2 End --].
Between now and this upcoming September, we will be looking for qualified, fluent English & Spanish teachers who will are interested in working on a bit of a consultant basis within businesses such as Telefónica, Terra Mobile, KPMG, etc. as a permanent, on call, 9-5 type, teacher/translator.
This is an exciting opportunity to work as an English teacher and not have to be on the trains every hour or be locked into a fixed, permanent, static class time. You would be not just an English teacher, but rather a cultural and linguistic interface that would be around to help actually \\\'create\\\' an English speaking atmosphere in the workplace.
Though the main time frame for this rollout is in September, there is a good possibility that we may look for people during the summer months as well, so please email me directly ASAP and/or post a response to this thread. I can be emailed at: [!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"mailto:tonytorero@onspanishtime.com\"]
tonytorero@onspanishtime.com
[/A][!-- BBCode End --].
If you are fluent with both languages and, like me, are generally frustrated with the poor quality of English language instruction here in Spain, let me know and we\\\'ll do something about it.
Best Regards:
Tony Vargas

Celedonia,
I\'m sorry to say this, but as I believe in HONESTY, I feel obligated...your post is evidence of WHY "a person with over a life time of experience as a Spanish English speaker" isn\'t finding work. You sound aggressive, impolite and what\'s more, your grammar and spelling in both languages is simply put, bad. You are right, it makes no difference where you\'re from. I doubt that Spaniards deny Puerto Ricanos jobs because of whence they came. Most directors need to hire people with language skills and people skills, and if you lack those qualities, you will be bottom on the list.
Truthfully, after reading your post again, I was certain that it was a joke. I hope so. And if not, then, I STRONGLY suggest that to get a job anywhere in the world, you design your proposal with a bit more manners and a more well written posting style.
By the way, Tony asks that YOU contact him, not vis-a-versa.[addsig]

Hello Mike. Our roll-out is continuing slowly but surely and we\'re certainly barreling foward, progressing and even looking for and interviewing more people. New roll-outs just take a bit of time... [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_nod.gif\"]
I did receive your CV, however it looks as though you are not presently in Spain nor do you have Spanish or EU residency. Unfortunately, the clients that we\'re dealing with at present are being quite particular about this requirement. Therefore, those who are presently here and residents are those who we are currently meeting with and talking to.
My apologies to you and others who I haven\'t been able to respond to personally yet, but time just hasn\'t permitted me to do so yet. Should we be able to sponsor residency in the future, I\'ll let you all know either via this thread or a mass emailing. Best regards... [addsig]

Hi Tony,
Thanks for your response. I guess I don\'t really understand the types of sponsorships out there. I didn\'t know that in order to secure a job in Spain, the company would have to provide a residency sponsorship. I thought that as long as I was offered a position, I would be able to secure the residency visa privately?
Many thanks,

You\'re certainly welcomed to seek it privately, but the cruel reality is that it is not at all easy and bureaucratically suffocating at times as many will tell you.
We very much want to grow the project to the point where we can justify helping with the sponsorship question for qualified candidates in one manner or another, but you have to walk first before you can run... I could write a ton more on the \'[!-- BBCode Start --]
to come to Spain legally or not to come to Spain legally...THAT is the question!
[!-- BBCode End --]\', but I\'d best leave that to others to address as it would not be appropriate for me to do so here.
As you visit this and the other various Spain-Lover BB\'s and read up on the subject, you\'ll probably find quite a bit of information and accounts on the subject... If you\'re serious about trying to get to Spain in one manner or another, my recommendation would be to \'surf\' the Bulletin Boards a bit & ask LOTS of questions... It\'s tricky, but definitely not impossible. Best of luck to you...[addsig]

Thanks for your input. I have to say, that sadly after over 6 months of research I am not even walking, but crawling. I have scoped out numerous options and they all seem to fall through. I have even offered to try out for an ice hockey team that recruits foreigners!!
Because my girlfriend lives in Madrid, I was very interested in the Telefonica project. Plus, when it said that those who are EU citizens or presently in Spain, I became anxious because presently in SPain doesn\'t necessarily mean \'with a visa\'. Well anyway, I\'ll keep searching.
Many thanks,
Michael Colligan
