Teaching English Qualifications are they needed ?
« on: May 19, 2002, 08:14:00 PM »
Hi can you answer a couple of questions ?
Do you need a certificate to teach English in Spain or is it possible to gain training whilst being employed ?
What are the best type of course available and do any offer placements after qualification ?
Finally has anyone moved out to Spain with a family and what pitfalls did you encounter with your children ?
Would appreciate any help in these fields, all responses welcome.
Please feel feel to drop me a line on

Tracey: You replied to Wayne\'s other inquiry with the statement "Business English is so rare that a director might hire you without any other certificate" or something along those lines. I have an MBA in IT (Master\'s of Business Administration, major in Information Technology) and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. I\'m planning to take the CELTA in Madrid next summer. I\'d like to specialize in Business English. Any suggestions or tips? Do you have any comments or feedback?

I think you\'re setting yourself up for success! Truthfully, business English is in incredible demand. I would try to secure a copy of [!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0521585570/qid=1029582574/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/102-4623688-4063342\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]TEACH BUSINESS ENGLISH[/A][!-- BBCode End --] or [!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0764173065/ref=pd_bxgy_img_2/102-4623688-4063342\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]LET\'S SPEAK BUSINESS ENGLISH[/A][!-- BBCode End --] so that you may be able to specialize your experience and knowledge. They are also excellent references to keep even through a CELTA course (the first book mentioned being a Cambridge Press book).

Once you\'ve finished your CELTA, be sure to design your resume around your business experience. And try to find "institutos" that hire teachers specifically for business English. Check out our list of [!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.expatriatecafe.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Web_Links&file=index&req=viewlink&cid=10\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]TEACH ENGLISH-ACADEMIES[/A][!-- BBCode End --] link for starters!

Good LUCK![addsig]
