Does anyone know what the rules are as far as moving to Spain with a pet?  I would like to move and be able to bring my gato with me.  Also, how open are landlords to renting to people with pets (cats)? [IMG SRC=\"images/forum/smilies/icon_eek.gif\"]ops:

HawaiiGirl

I had a little kitty in my apartment in Spain, however, i bought her there. I know that if you are bringing a dog to England from USA you must quarrantine the animal for 6 months! Yikes! But i do not think it's that bad for cats in Spain.

I was wondering if Ferretts are considered to be legal pets in Spain?!?!

Good question Vieve!

I'd ask your vet!

Also:

To bring pets into Spain, visitors must present at customs certificates of origin and good health in keeping with international norms on such matters, and signed by officially recognised veterinaries in the respective country of origin.

The date and nature of the vaccines administered to the animal, especially anti-rabies vaccine, must appear on the certificate. Many Spanish hotels permit dogs and cats under specific conditions. The entrance of dogs and cats in restaurants is usually prohibited, as is the case with many business establishments.

Hey gang, someone posted a first hand experience on this pet thing on my message board and I thought I would share it with you all here, I have pasted it below:

Quote
Hi,
My husband and I moved here two weeks ago with our two cats. There was no quarantine period. The forms you need are available on the Spanish embassy's website. The pages can be printed out on adobe. You need to have the forms filled out by your vet within 12 days of travel, certifying that your cat is up to date on all shots and in good health. Then, there is a spot at the bottom of the form that we had the local "federal veterinarian" sign and stamp. No one seemed to be sure that he was the proper person to sign it, but it worked.

When we traveled with the cats, we were told they would ride with us in the states, but not with us to Madrid. They're not able to ride with us either leg of the trip.

We were also told that we would need to collect them once we arrived in the airport from the USair office. However, they were going around the baggage carousel right as we walked in!

Finally, it would seem that all of our effort to have the proper paperwork was for naught, as no one even glanced at the cats, let alone asked us for paperwork! My husband says there must be pictures of our cats up in the post office as "wanted for sneaking in to Spain!"

The cats did just fine. I had been very worried about them. They didn't seem to frazzled and were, surprisingly, not mad at us!

Feel free to ask me anything else you want to know about our trip over or kitty importing!

Katrina"
