Getting Notifications from Placement Officers
« on: February 07, 2012, 04:13:01 PM »
I was just wondering if placement officers will let you know when they've received the hard copy of the application we send in. I've already e-mailed my placement officer a few times with application questions...then again when Profex was down ( :-[) so I just want to check with you guys before I start bugging my PO more. I hear they don't like getting a ton of e-mails...

You will receive an email when your application status changes from Inscrita to Registrada, which means they have received the hard copy application. It took a couple days to get the email and have my status change on Profex. When did you send your application in, and what is your consulate?

I sent it in on Thursday to the PO in Washington DC (for Minnesota). It's still pretty early for my status to change, but I was just wondering in case I don't hear anything from them. And thanks again!

You won't hear anything from them. They expect you to check your status on Profex. As the person above mentioned, your status changes to Registrada.

For me, I never got an e-mail or any sort of contact from them when my status changed to registrada.  Just log into Profex every so often and check your status.  I sent my documents to the NYC office and I think it took a few weeks for mine to change, although it took longer to get there since I sent it from Canada.  It seems to be normal to take several weeks to a month for your status to change.  If it takes longer than a month then you might want to contact the office.

That's interesting. I sent in my hardcopy application and two days later I received an email saying
Quote

Maybe it's just that the Los Angeles consulate is much quicker at processing and more organized than others.

Now I'm just waiting for my status to change to Admitada. I'm going to wait another week or so (it's been 1 since I was notified I was Registrada), then I'll shot them an email if my status hasn't changed.

Should I be slightly worried that I sent in the paper application a week ago and my advisor told me that she still hasn't even received it in the mail yet? Could it also mean that it's there, but they just haven't even looked through them yet to change people's statuses?

You can also call your regional officers directly, but keep in mind that they are quite busy.

You guys have lots of time. You have the number; it won't disappear or anything. It can take 2 weeks or a third. I didn't email my officer after I sent the package. They are pretty good at it...it's SPAIN that can take awhile...to send the nombremiento letters, which is the step after you accept.

For all of those worried about the tardiness of things... read "Vuelve Usted Manana" by Jose de Larra... pretty much sums up how things go in Spain!  And it's a good short read :)

Quick question: What's the difference between "admitida" and "registrada"? Mine just says admitida... am I doing something wrong or does it change to registrada after you accept or something?

I believe registrada is when they're saying they've received whatever you sent in the mail, and admitida is when they're saying they've looked at what you've sent and that your application is complete.  In any case you change to registrada first and then admitida, so if your status is admitida you're good.

I know the application process doesn't end until March 31st, but this is already making me a little nervous. And yeah...I know, Spain is slow  :-\ I was hoping it would be a little different in D.C. My status is still inscrita and the paper application was sent in 2 weeks ago. Do I have to have all of my documents in to change to registrada? I'm giving my professor some time to write the letter of recommendation, which is the last thing I'm waiting on.

Yes, the majority of the time you do have to have all your documents in for you status to change to registrada then to admitida.  However, I personally didn't send in my letter of recommendation for my second application I had (it's a llllooonnngg story) and my status changed to admitida where as the orginial docs I sent for my first application (including the rec letter) my status didn't change.  But I'm pretty sure whoever changed my status for the second application "slipped up" somewhere along the line.

So to answer your question, yep... you need to have all your stuff in for it to change. BUT very rarely does one's status change without having required documents in.  So if you called your consulate to inquire about your status, don't be surprised if they tell you your missing the letter of recommendation, since you really are.  I suppose you could lie.  It may get your status changed. Who knows.  ;)

I am also in the DC region, and they have been slow to non-responsive.  I just sent a follow up email, well another follow up.  I'll let you know how it goes.

I've sent a few emails to DC and got responses surprisingly fast, but the responses I did get never fully answered my questions. At least now I know I just have to get everything in for it to change to registrada. I just thought they lost the application when I emailed them last week saying I mailed it a week ago and they told me they don't even have it...maybe that's their way of saying they just haven't bothered to check yet... But yes, definitely let me know how it goes!

Did you get tracking or delivery confirmation when you mailed your documents?  Stuff does occasionally get lost in the mail, although it's probably more likely that the office is just backed up with paperwork.

In my case, my status was changed to registrada before my letter of rec. was sent in. I sent my stuff to the Los Angeles consulate though, so they might do things a little bit differently there.

My consulate is also LA. My status was changed to Registrada almost 3 weeks ago and hasn't been changed yet. I don't know what the holdup could be – all my documents were uploaded before I even sent in the .pdf application. It's not like they had any extra papers to organize besides that!

I guess I could give them one more week before emailing...

FYI: I had the same thing with the LA consulate.  I think I waited about a month, and then emailed them and told them that all of my paperwork had been there for a while now, and if they could please update my status (I don't remember exactly what I said).  Anyway, they did not respond to my email, but they did change my status to Admitida the same day or the next day.

They're pretty quick about responding to emails so if you email them they'll generally get back to you within a day. I guess it wouldn't hurt to wait another week though.

Okay, here's to hoping that my status gets changed soon! My professor just sent off the recommendation letter, which is the last document I needed! Does anyone know a general time frame that it takes you to go from inscrita -> registrada -> admitida? Some of you have noted that it takes longer than others, but would anyone who goes through the D.C consulate know this?

Thanks again!

My status changed to Registrada the day the consulate received my signed .pdf.  As for going Admitida, it's hard for me to say.  I spoke to my professor on a Tuesday, he said he had sent the letter of rec, and the following Monday my status was Admitida.
This was with the NY consulate.
