Establishing residency in Spain
« on: June 26, 2011, 03:32:03 PM »
Hey everyone,

I was accepted to the Cultural assistants program in Madrid, which requires a student visa as technically it is not a job, but 'continuing education' and I would receive 1000 euros a month stipend, but not a 'pay check'.

I was rejected for my visa for have a 3 year old DUI. My only offense.

I have a serious girlfriend who is a legal resident of Spain, but not a Spanish citizen as she is Colombian. I am planning to visit in July, and stay for 2 months. If we marry, can I apply for residency while I am there?

I suppose the root of my question is: How do I stay there legally, either through marriage or other route?  Hire a lawyer there? I can also appeal the consulate's decision by going before a tribunal in Madrid.

Any advice?? Thanks in advance
