switching regions
« on: March 27, 2011, 01:12:48 AM »
I was recently assigned to La Rioja, and am really not too excited about it. It's a cute little region but doesn't really have the qualities I want for a place to live for a year. On the other hand, it seems that lots of other people being placed around my number (and after) have been placed in Galicia or Murcia, two places I would love to go (my first two choices were Asturias and Valencia, and these regions seem somewhat similar). Does anyone have any idea what would happen if I emailed my consulate to see about switching?

I hate to break it to you but it seems pretty impossible to switch regions :( I mean you could e-mail and ask, the worst they can say is no...but they seem pretty adamant about it in the manual.

Sometimes they say that if you find someone willing to switch, you can, but I've never heard of anyone actually doing it.

I think it would be pretty difficult. If you want to try, I would find someone willing to switch and I would email them ASAP, before school assignments.

I know a girl from this year who was placed in La Rioja after wanting Valencia reaaaally bad. She's had a great experience so far, and this coming school year she'll be switching to Valencia. I would recommend trying it out. It never hurts to get out of your comfort zone, and if you want to renew for another year, you can always switch then. I would give it a chance.
