Pets in Spain
« on: January 28, 2003, 04:05:00 PM »
Hi there,

This may seem like a weird question...

I am planning to move to Barcelona in June, and would like to teach english.  I will probably be staying there for a year or two.... I am thinking of getting a pet dog while I\'m there, as I am a big animal lover and love the companionship of having a dog.  i am just wondering if i will be able to bring the dog back to Toronto when I want to return.  Also, does any body know of any breeders/pet stores and in general how the dog/pet situation is in Spain?!?!  Thank you!

Hola Sheri,

I too am moving to BCN although I won\'t be there til September.  I am also looking to get a pet when I get there.  Although, I\'m looking to get a pug.  I have actually found a breeder in Spain, they\'re English, an even though they are pug breeders perhaps they can offer you a lead on a reputable large dog breeder in the area....here\'s a link to their web site...[!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.donnymoorpugs.com\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]Donny Moor Pugs[/A][!-- BBCode End --]

Incidentally, not at all a weird post, I posted the exact same question myself on this board not to long ago...."where can I get a dog?"  so you\'re not alone [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif\"]

Hope this helps...

I\'ve decided to make the move to Barcelona later this year, but I must admit that one of the biggest things holding me back were my two dogs. I don\'t want to leave them!! Even though they will be staying with my brother, who currently lives with me so they know him and will be staying in the same general area without much interruption to their routine, I can\'t help but feel like I\'m some horrible parent abandoning my children. Are we animal lovers sick or what? [addsig]

I took out two cats and a border collie with my under the passports for pets scheme.

I warn you now though, that the pets shops that sells pets aren\'t that great.  Personally I\'d like to see pet shops banned from selling animals.  The Spanish have a bit of a cavalier attitude to animals and as a result the rescue centres are full of unwanted animals.  Have a look at your local rescue centres first. Also if you\'re buying from an English breeder make sure they are actually English and not Irish as there is a massive problem with puppy farms.[addsig]
