General Help - Please !!
« on: January 27, 2003, 04:31:00 PM »
Hi, i wrote to the other message board and im just writing here in the hope that i will get a reply. I am just looking for general information really, i am planning to go over to Barcelona in September time, after spending the summer is San Sebastian. I would love if someone could tell me the possibilities of finding a job (of any sort, including TEFL, if i chose to obtain a certificate), i am willing to work something not so great at the start. Also, the chances of finding somewhere to stay? To rent a room, or a flat even, cheaply enough? I am set for the move and am saving at the moment for it. I would just like to know from people who know what it is like over there, what my chances are of finding work and settling down. Any help is much appreciated. I am 20 years old and Irish (if this helps, which i doubt, are there many Irish people in BCN?). Thanks,

Andy[addsig]

Hey there Andy,

I don\'t know if I can offer you any more info than what you\'ve seen on the message boards already [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif\"]  because I\'m pretty much in the same boat, except, I\'m American.....when you say that you\'re Irish, do you mean that you are a citizen of Ireland?  If the answer is yes, then you will have a much easier time of it finding work than I will because of your EU National status.  The unemployment rate is terribly high but they\'ll always need English teachers.  You can get TEFL certified at a number of schools.  I got certified at [!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.itc-training.com\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]ITC[/A][!-- BBCode End --], last November in Prague.  I lived there teaching English for six months.  Now I\'m heading to BCN.  There are a lot of great web sites to check out, here are few...

[!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.escapeartist.com\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]EscapeArtist.com[/A][!-- BBCode End --]

[!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.spainalive.com\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]Spain Alive[/A][!-- BBCode End --]

[!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.barcelona-metropolitan.com/default.asp\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]Metropolitan Magazine - Barcelona[/A][!-- BBCode End --]

Those should get you started.  Also check out the web links page on this site...it has links for practically every site out there about Spain.  For the most part I think that finding a flat and a job are going to be things that you can\'t really do before hand, only after you get there.  So plan well and have a sizeable savings set aside.  Well that\'s all I got for you [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif\"] ...as I\'m still State-side....hope this helps....

Salud! [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_beer.gif\"]
