Switching locations 2010
« on: May 18, 2010, 08:01:35 PM »
D.C. consulate just informed me that switching is possible this year. You just have to make sure the schools are okay with the switch.

That said, anyone interested in switching to the balearic islands? My friend is having an amazing time as an assistant there, but I'm not interested in living on an island.

Just got this message from Profex by e-mail:

It is NOT POSSIBLE to switch placements. We have done our best to assign candidates to the regions of their preference whenever possible. You will receive information about cities and schools when you get the letter of invitation to participate in the program. We do not have information about schools and locations, please wait till you are contacted by your Comunidad Autónoma. You will need the letter of invitation for the visa application. This letter may take several weeks, depending on the region. You will receive instructions about the visa application soon. Remember: do not buy non-refundable or non-changeable tickets until you get your visa. Thanks for your patience.

Yeah, the consulate won't switch schools for you. As long as you find a switching partner and both schools are okay with it...you're golden!

I'd be really surprised if they will let you change between regions. That means a bunch of work for both governments. Switching schools in the same comunidad autonoma seems a lot more logical with reference to what they told you, what the Profex e-mail was, and what it's been like here in the past.

Yeah that seems in line with what I've read from last year. Seems like you were able to switch schools within a region, but not to switch from one region to another.

Hmm...well, I did specifically ask about swapping regions, not schools within regions.

I was placed in Castilla la Mancha and I'm pretty desperate to be in Madrid.  I have a few friends who successfully swapped themselves and knew others who did so a few years ago and so I thought it was worth a shot asking. These friends of mine traveled to Castilla la Mancha and loved it..I'm just eager to be in a city right now. If anyone is interested I'd love to hear from you!

Hi everyone hola a todos, how nice to go to Andalucia, right?! My new place will be El Priorato, 1 hr drive from Sevilla inland, inbetween Sevilla and Cordoba. Not to be all that negative directly but still: who wants to change places with me? I am really looking for a place in a city, and not inland! Let me know, thanks a lot :-)

Hola!

I just got assigned to Castila de la Mancha, and I would really prefer to be in a city, preferably MADRID, but I would also be open to almost any other city (e.g. Sevilla, Granada, Barcelona).

If anyone is interested in switching, please let me know!

Hi there,
Just got placed in Valencia and I would definitely switch with you to be in the Balearic Islands. That goes for anyone else in Mallorca - anyone want to switch to Valencia? Let me know ASAP!
