If your school likes your work, they will write a letter to the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry will get in touch with you telling you the process of how to renew.

I'm using Internet Explorer so that's not the issue. Have a recommendation from the principal to renew so I assume he's pleased , but will be applying to a different region.I noticed in previouw years there was  specific information on how to reapply and where to send the application as well as what to do if you wanted to stay with the same school or go somewhere else. there is a link to info to reapply under the frequent questions section but it doesn't work.  Waiting to hear back from MEC.

Hi all,

I'm in Galicia and would like to switch to Madrid for the upcoming year, but I'm having trouble getting a straight answer from anyone. I have a few emails and am awaiting reply, so I'll keep you posted and ask that you do the same. Good luck!

Hi,

e-mailed the program in Washington, regional office in Spain and will e-mail the regional office where planning to transfer. Answers so far were not very detailed and or helpful. Basically told you have to fill out an application and notify the region your applying to that your renewing. Waiting to see what they may specifically want. the major problem was not being able to log into Profex because of some glitch in their system unrelated to my internet provider. this happened to me last year and they had to unlock something on their end. Decided  it was a waste of time waiting for them to fix things on their end again and to apply using a different e-mail account all together and use different password and that works. Cannot understand how the program says people can renew and give absolutely no direction on just how to do that. Maybe that's their way of discouraging renewals.

Thank you for the response. My question was what to include in a renewal application and how to submit it. This is what I've heard so far:

Galicia says to hang on and wait for more specific instructions, which they'll receive shortly after the turn of the new year from Madrid.  I was told that it was still early on and that early January would be okay timing.

One of three email addresses listed in Annex 1 for Madrid of the program manual responded and said I was barking up the wrong tree. I was redirected to another email address in Madrid and have yet to hear back.

I find all of the "wait it out" advice hard to swallow for a number of reasons: the application opened much earlier this year, people seem to be submitting applications much sooner, and renewals get second priority in what is already sure to be a long line. Is there someone who is willing and/or qualified to give a straight answer without perpetuating this cycle of re/misdirection?

hi,

From what I've gathered you just fill out a new profex app or log into your old one and update the cv. then you submit it electronically. I don't think you have to wait for all the specifics in order to reapply since it's just the on-line version. you don't even have to submit any documents via on-line. You can just send those in snail mail.  the difference when reapplying is that they go, I believe, to the regional office in Spain that your applying too.  It sounds like the autonomous regions are just learning what specifically 2nd year people need to submit and that may be the reason for the run around.  as you probablly know, On profex it says not to submit  your paper documents to the office in Washington . there is also a discussion on this topic on facebook and someone just posted they received more specifics on what to mail in.

For those applying for a 2nd year, do you/did you have to send in a police report from the city your living in, in spain?  I think the manual for applying states the police report can't be more then 3 months old. the one I have from the US was issued more then 2 months ago.

hey brandon and beachp...

did you guys find any more specific info about renewing and switching regions? i've been in sevilla for 2 years, and while i absolutely love it here, i'm kinda ready for a change. i was thinking about going north to cataluña or somthing, but i havent been able to find any good info. also, im getting a little nervous, cause as someone pointed out, people have been getting their applications in way earlier this year. when i applied in 2008, they had to extend the deadline 3 times. this year, it looks like they will be full by the end of january. if i have to start an entire new application, rather than going through the renewal process, i feel like i'm SOL.

any ideas?

Hi,

An e-mail was sent out to those in their first year of the program stating they have first priority over new people if they want to renew. then comes first timers, followed by those who've done the program for more then 2 years. though that shouldn't stop anyone who wants to renew a 3 or 4th time according to the e-mail (it's posted on the 2010-2010 forum).  You have to access your application on profix and update your CV and e-mail it.  You don't have to upload any documents, you can just mail them to the appropriate office  according to the instructions in the manual and you have until at least the deadline. there is a renewal form to be filled out and signed by the head of the program (something you would have done last year) .that can be accessed before you enter the application.  you can find it under detaille and then informe de centros.

Realize that 400 were assigned to Madrid last year, but I imagine many of those were renewals.  Ergo, fewer than 400 positions for first timers like us.  I'm #443, with my fingers crossed.

Hey!

This is my 1st year as a taeching assistant and I am placed in a pueblo an hour outside of Sevilla. Over the weekend my roommate and I finished our renewal application on Profex and I was 1294 and she was 1384. Does anyone know if the profex number matters for renewals or just for those applying for the first time.

Dear Candidate,

Please allow us to make some clarifications to the past mass emails.  Some have received an invitation to participate for another year.  This email only refers to participants who are currently participating in their first year of the program for the 2009-10 academic year as it is the policy of the program to give priority to participants who wish to participate for the first time or those who wish to pursue a second (first renewal) year of the program.

The priority for regional assignments this year will be in the following order:  first time renewal participants that hold a positive recommendation letter from their school, then brand new candidates who have never participated before, then we will take any other renewal candidates into consideration if they also hold a positive recommendation AND we have positions still available, which, due to the lengthy wait list for new candidates last year seems unlikely.  That being said, candidates wishing to stay for a third or fourth year are not prevented from applying.

Has anyone heard anything positive?

Since those applying for their second year have first priority, it seems like the profex # should not matter as much. In priority order you would only be behind other second year applicants... so, say for example that 1/3 of all applicants ahead of you are applying for their second year. That would mean your priority number would really be more like #430 rather than #1294.

So, in theory, you shouldn't have a problem getting placed in your first choice region. Especially since I am guesing that the number of overall applicants who are applying for their second year is less than 1/3.  It seems like the vast majority are first time applicants.

My roomate is renewing (she is currently in Sevilla, but is switching regions to Madrid). Her inscrita number was 1384 and she was accepted last night into the Madrid region which means they are already processing and placing renewal requests (atleast for the Madrid region).

Hey, so you know that one-page form that your director has to fill out saying that you did a good job and that you can continue? The one that they send to your school along with the directions on how to reapply? I can´t find mine, and time is quickly approaching. Does anyone know where to find a copy of it online? Any help would be really appreciated.

Two solutions:

1. Call your regional coordinator and ask them to e-mail you a copy of the proper one. (Our boss e-mailed us the paperwork but I deleted it and it's gone for good.)

2. I have THE FORMAT but not the proper one with the seal, etc. I had the same problem as you, and had to "make my own." I'd be happy to e-mail you the format that I used - it has the same information but, I reiterate, not the offical seal. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I can get it to you ASAP.

Hi 2nd years...just curious...did you have a separate application deadline from first years?  I am a first year whose inscrita number is 2035 and I'm veryyy nervous because it seems like there are so many 2nd years and their inscrita numbers could be all the way in the 4000's!

Question for 2nd year assistants in Andalucia reapplying for a 3rd year.

Last year the majority (if not all of them) of 2nd and 3rd year Andalucia assistants were not granted a renewal for a following year. It was stated in a letter that accompained the Junta renewal letter that only 1st year assistants reapplying for a second year would be given preference and that NO preference would be given to 2nd and 3rd year assistants renewing. I want to know if:

1. Was this only for the region of Andalucia?

2. Does this NO preference still valid this year?

In the program manual last year it stated what you posted above about no preference being given to 2nd and 3rd year assistants renewing. So Andalucia should not be the only region stating this. there is no printed info on this topic that I could find in this year's manual. I know of a couple of  assistants who were offered another year making it their 3rd or 4th year. One was offered a region different from the one she had previously been working in.

Would be curious to know how you would find the info on how many people applying in
Andalucia (or any other region) for a 3rd or more year were rejected. Was this info obtained from the Junta of a region or  personal insider info?

I have a few questions about renewing. I'm teaching in Malaga right now.

1. Can we use our old profex login information and profile?
2. Do we need updated medical and police records? If so, do they need to be from Spain or the FBI clearance/health certificate from America?
3. I heard something about renewing our NIE 90 days before it expires and then we don't have to go through the hassle of doing it again next year...anyone know anything else about this?
4. Do we still need to go to an office in the USA to get a new visa?

Thank you very much!

Oh and is there anyone on here that's teaching in Madrid right now? If so, could you please email me at ginajcbsn@gmail.com ? Im thinking about switching and had a few questions I was hoping to ask someone that's currently there!

Thanks!

I'm in Granada and have already re-applied. Right now I'm inscrita #1552, but I sent all my paperwork to Sevilla a couple weeks ago, so I'm hoping I'm changed to admitida soon. In answer to your questions, this is how I understand it:

1. Yes, your old profex account should still be active and you can update your CV (I forgot to change my US address to my Spanish one) and apply using this account.

2. We don't need a medical report or police report. We just have to renew our NIE, which leads to...

3. Based on everything I've heard and how simple the renovation application is, as long as we renew the NIE then we don't have to do anything regarding the visa...

4. or anything Stateside, for that matter.

This is just my interpretation of the 'rules'. If anyone has heard or knows anything more/different, please post. Hope everyone has had a great time so far! Life in Granada is awesome and this program kicks ass
