Renting in Madrid: Year lease required?
« on: January 06, 2003, 08:31:00 PM »
Hey Guys, this question would probably be best answered by Jer or Tracy, but if anyone knows please respond. From all my experiences in renting apts in the US, I have been required to sign either a 6 month of year long lease for an apt. however, it seems that from some of the stories i have read on this board (Candelas, for example) you were able to move in and out of apts at your leisure. Is that true, or are the leases generally set up like in the US with a 6 month of year contract. I think it would be great if you could move in a out easily. it would defineately give you more freedom for exploring the city and contry. Anyway, any info on this would be great, either respond here or email me at [!-- BBcode auto-mailto start --][a href=\"mailto:Dustinianb@yahoo.com.\"]Dustinianb@yahoo.com.[/a][!-- BBCode auto-mailto end --] thanks for the help and keep up the great site, the info it provides is invaluable.

Adiosito,

Dustin[addsig]

Renting in Madrid: Year lease required?

Hi Dustin, sorry for the super late response. You are probably here by now and have learned all about renting and such but maybe this will help for future visitors.

Be careful, Candela is a friend of mine and her situation is rather unique in that she got a great deal on a rental from a friend (sort of a sublet with no contract).

THIS IS RARE!!!

Normally you will need to sign a contract and, if not a year, 6 months will be the min. if you want your own place.

Paying 1st months (or first 2) plus 1 month security deposit is normal here.

If you want to have the flexibility to move in and out easily, you would be better off renting rooms in shared flats instead of getting your own place which will require a min. contract.
