Avenues to Human Resources positions in Sevilla/Madrid??
« on: September 23, 2009, 05:08:33 AM »
Hello- I realize it may be a difficult task in the current economy, but I am trying desperately to work all avenues of making my way back to Sevilla or Madrid, where I lived and studied in 2001, and fell in love with all things Spanish...

I'm a bilingual (Spanish/English) Human Resources professional with 5 years of management level experience and a Master's degree in Human Resources Development, and would love to connect with some resources to begin my job search. Does anyone know of the top websites employers are using to post Human Resources positions? I have already applied for a position with Proctor & Gamble in Madrid, also.

Thanks for any advice you can share!

- Cassie

Hi Cassie,

Probably the best thing you can do is to research all the multinational companies where you are from (the country) and then begin to network and find connections to those companies.

With 5 years of professional experience under your belt, you must surely have professional contacts. If you haven't already, complete a profile on a professional networking site such as LinkedIn and find the professional groups in Spain that have to do with human resources.

Networking is a job in and of itself and you have to dedicate the appropriate amount of time to it. Nowadays with social networking all the rage, you really have to work all angles.

Good luck with your endeavors!

Hi Cassie,

I don't think you would very easily get a job as a human resources person here in Madrid because you're not familiar with any of the laws or norms here. You just about have to be a lawyer to deal with the government here and in fact many of my human resources students have been lawyers (I have 2 now). I think you also have to be someone they trust (meaning "contacts") because they're not always totally on the up and up around here. Hence, you have two big points against you already.

If you really, really want to be a human resources manager, you might consider working for a language school. Just send your CV to all of them that you are interested in. Some of them are dealing with 100s and a very few with 100s of résumés every year and they may need people like you.
