This is a copy of a post on Couchsurfing.net, that I have been using to find a place to stay in Madrid. I will be arriving Sept. 2nd, 2009, and recently stumbled upon this site, I am sure that there is a plethora of advice here for me

Read and comment.

Hi! I am Josh, I have been on Couchsurfing since Oct.
2008, some great friends here in Nashville told me
about it, I immediately fell in love with the project,
because I knew that one day I would leave the states
and try to find a home in Europe. Well that day is
soon!I have my plane ticket, and my passport! I am
very
excited, I was raised in a Southern Baptist home in
OH,
I was in the Marine Corps, Have always been surrounded
by closed minded simple people, and I am going to
expand my horizons and follow my dream. So, I have
been
working two jobs recently to save up money for a good
start. I recently joined the Madrid Group, I am flying
into Madrid and I think I would like it the best, as
opposed to Barcelona, I want to experience the Culture
of Spain, and not just the touristy areas. My ultimate
goal is to become a TEFL teacher, but I have several
concerns about Visa's etc. After reading your profile,
I thought you would have some great advice for me.
Basically I am saving some cash, leaving the states
behind and dropping myself in Madrid, with no Job,
House, or anything specific. [oddly enough it's been
my
dream since high school]So What was your experience
like, was it similar? Do I have to worry about being
deported or arrested after i'm there for 90 days? What
state is madrid in currently, economically? What
advice
or tips do you have to share?
I wana hear about all of it!
Thanks for taking the time to read all of this

-Josh
