Processing Visa from abroad
« on: May 09, 2009, 08:10:21 AM »
Does anyone have experience processing your visa from abroad?

I'm currently in South Korea right now and I'll be here until the middle to end of August. I can't exactly send Spain my passport for a month or so since I won't be back in the USA until about a month before I leave.

Thanks!

(I'm going to email my regional representative in Miami the same question but he's on leave for another week).

Hello-

I had the same problem in 2006, I was abroad and had to begin the visa process. I think it depends on your Consulate, in my case the Houston consulate allowed my mother to drop off all the required documents with a photocopy of my passport and a signed statement from me saying that I gave permission to my mother to drop off the documents on my behalf.

Once you get back to the US then you personally have to go to the Consulate with your passport and they will apply the visa. I can't remember if I got it back in the same day, which is what I think happened, or had to wait a few more days.

Hopefully Miami works the same.

Hey Jeff,

Im also currently living in S. Korea and quite interested in applying to the program for  2010-11. I was wondering how much of a hassle it was for you to get your documents together while living here. For instance, how did you get the bill of good health? Any pointers would be appreciated...Thanks!

-A.

Unless you are a EU citizen you don't need the bill of good health until you apply for your visa (which is something I haven't done yet).  I'm calling my regional representative tonight to try to figure out how I'm going to get my visa.  I will let you know how it goes.

legally it's not possible to process your visa from abroad since they need your passport.

I'm getting all my documents lined up from Korea (I'm getting the medical check done here) so the day I get back to the U.S. I can submit my documents to apply for the visa.   I will have 5 weeks from when I get back to the U.S.A. until I need to be in Spain, so it should work out okay.

EDIT: This is the OP I just forgot my password for JeffBox!

I see, thanks for the info. Are you also getting your criminal check done here? (Since I imagine youve lived in Korea for more than 6 months) I wonder how one goes about that in Seoul......
