Me, too  :'(    I wanted to have a strong application, but apparently that wasn't as important as applying early.  I'm working on plan B now and starting to line things up for plans C and D (just in case), but I'm not giving up hope yet.  You never know what might happen.

P.S.  I've started a group on Facebook for those of us who weren't given a placement.  If you'd like to share ideas about alternative opportunities, please join.

Have you guys been able to log in to the PROFEX site? I have not been able to log in since this morning... I keep getting an error like if the site is down? Anyone else?

Based on the posts in this thread saying that your place in line the the last 4 numbers of the solicitud number, I am #2218. So basically, there is no way in hell I will get in, if it is true that the most important thing was just turning in an application as soon as possible. I am pretty upset that the prevailing qualifications to being accepted were getting your application in as soon as possible, as opposed to quality. It took over a week to get my letter from my reference (she is an incredibly busy CEO) and I poured over the letter night after night thinking it would be dissected and scrutinized. Now, I sincerely doubt that it was even read.

Hey guys! so I have a question, and it might sound stupid, but this whole thing has been an emotional rollercoaster and I really need to know.

How do you guys know that you are on the waitlist? is it based on checking your status on Profex? Or based on a personalized e-mail? Or on that mass e-mail that they sent out to everybody saying that if you didn't get offered a grant, you will be placed on the wait list?

The Profex site is down, so I can't really check on my status. I don't know if I'm supposed to still wait and see if they're still e-mailing people with acceptances or just accept the fact that I need to wait for something to open up. Any info would be great right now.

Good luck everybody!

Hi twang, I'm going off the mass email from last night (9 pm Spanish time).  I haven't received anything more specific.  As far as Profex I haven't been able to sign in either.

Hi everyone I thought you might find this interesting/distressing/helpful.  I sent an email to the LA consulate to check on whether or not I was on the wait list. This is what I received in reply:

The available positions (1,400, approximately) were assigned on a first come first served basis, and this year we have about 1000 people (like you) on the waiting list. Unfortunately, very few on the RESERVA-ADMITIDA list will be offered a spot as Cultural Ambassador for the 2009-2010 academic year in Spain. It will depend on how many participants reject the job offer that has been granted to them and your position in the ADMITIDA list, which is based on the date of your submission of the online Profex application and the reception at our office of the required hard copy documents.

Time for plan B

Meanwhile the Profex web site says that it's still accepting applications up until June 30. If they already have 1000 people on the waiting list, why keep the application process open another four weeks? Odd.

Strange, isn't it.  Add to that, on Mepsyd.es it states under deadline "Applications process is now closed."  This whole process seems very contradictory. =shrug=

Good news! the waitlist is slowing moving! I was 1732 and received an email yesterday afternoon that I have been assigned to Islas Baleares!!!

****For any one who gets off the waitlist and is assigned to Andalucia and would like to switch with me for Islas Baleares - sun, sand and beach! My family has a vacant apartment in Mallorca a block off the beach - willing to negotiate switching regions for dirt cheap rent in 3 bedroom - 2 bathroom aprtment 1 block from the beach. ****

Just got an email from profex saying this:

Dear Candidate,
We would like to remind you that Admitida now means that your application is complete but you are on the waiting list. The applications will continue to be assigned on a first come first served basis according to future vacancies. Please do not contact us inquiring about your status on the waiting list. The waiting list starts with application numbers above 1735 and the list goes on to application number 3000+. There is no time limit on when a wait listed candidate can be pulled as it is totally dependent on other candidates declining their grant. We apologize for the confusion with the terminology. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

I had found this on some other chat on the board today - it was posted this afternoon.

Hello everyone, I was 1770 on the wait list and was just placed in Avila and Guadalupe, Caceres Extremadura. Is anyone else going to be around here? I would love to find some people who are going to be in Caceres too!

and I found this on facebook yesterday -

I emailed Jesus from NY consulate over the weekend he e-mailed me back saying they are at 1814 on the list...i'm now 94 on the list almost there.

The waitlist is slowly moving for those still waiting.

Were you talking about this email: Hello Candidate,

We have recently had several spots open up in the Auxiliares de Conversacion program. Please respond to this email saying if you are still available to participate and what region you would like to be placed in. As before, we do not have the same number of spots for each region, nor do we have spots in every region but will do our best to place you where you will be happy. Also, as before, we will be assigning the positions according to application number. Please reply regardless if your answer is yes or no so that we may proceed down the waiting list so that we may offer the opportunity to as many as possible.

Please let us know if you would be willing to go to Pais Vasco if that is not one of your first choices.
Please only respond yes if you are serious about participating in and committing to the program.

PLEASE REPLY BY JUNE 24, 2009 12:00PM EASTERN TIME.

I saw on another page - "I was just accepted to Pais Vasco! I was number 1960" - the list is really moving now.
