The meaning of ADMITIDA
« on: March 13, 2009, 10:34:02 PM »
If the program is "first come first served", how does admitida not mean you're "in" ? Does anyone recall from last year's application?

This has already been discussed in another thread of this forum, but here is what you need to know:

ADMITIDA is a FALSO AMIGO. It does not mean "admitted" in the American English sense of the word as in "I've been admitted (accepted) to Harvard."

ADMITIDA simply means that both your online and hard copy versions of your application have been RECEIVED by the Spanish consulate. Think of it as proof and confirmation that your application has been received and is under review. That's all. It does not mean that you have been accepted to the program. That info will not be released until the end of April or in early May.

Good luck!

Hi Beckett,

Is your information about the meaning of "admitted" directly from the program? I ask this because in the instructions (#10)  for filling out the application it states, "Then wait to receive an electronic confirmation if you have been admitted into the program". What's the electronic confirmation?

Directly from the MEPSYD site:

"Positions will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis provided that candidates meet all the requirements and conveniently support their applications. An application is considered "fully submitted" when the hard copies have been sent and its reception and clearance has been acknowledged by the assigned office on Profex."

I interpret this as: 1) you're qualified, 2) your application is all there, and 3) you wait in line w/ other people who meet 1 & 2.

As for "admitida"...I'm fairly certain that it's referring specifically to your application, hence the gender agreement w/ "solicitud." In other words, if it were referring to you, it would change based on the gender of the applicant, or at least be left masculine like everything else when you're unsure. In a nutshell: they received your application. There are 8 statuses after "admitida," so I'm pretty sure it's just referring to Mount Paperwork. It just wouldn't be consistent with the countless mentions of April 15th if it were already decided.

That being said, I think we all have a pretty good shot of getting the grant. Last year they didn't even fill all of the spots...

I see that admitir can mean 'to receive' but it can also mean 'to admit.' According to wordreference anyway.

And there's no point in saying it's 'first come first served' if they're going to evaluate the application pool as a whole after april 15th. Right? If that were the case they would just say you'll find out in april with no mention of this 'first come first served' business.

Strange, anyhow.

But i like this analysis Brandinho. Admitida probably refers only to la solicitud. I guess the real question is what's going to happen after April 15 and what the real weight of "coming first" is.

I guess Wordreference has an app for iPhones and iTouches now. Kinda makes me wanna buy one.

Oh yeah...something I just realized that I overlooked. Every status available is feminine, so I guess I have to throw that line of reasoning out. Either way, I still think that they'll reserve the month and a half that's left and the other 8 possible statuses to officially notify us.

In regards to the "qualified/first come first serve" issue -- I think it just means that qualified candidate #15 who asked for Madrid will get it before qualified candidate #500 has a say. Once accepted, I don't think they'll review qualifications to a large extent to see who gets preference in what region...just the order in which they were received (given that they were both suitable applicants).

ps - This is pure speculation on my part.

The first come first serve is all about your location. I emailed MEPSYD about this and they told me that this. It is pretty much what BrandinhoGaucho said, locations are done on a first come first serve basis. If you turn in your application in February, you will get location preference over someone who applies in April. If you both put Madrid and there is only room for one, the person who applied earlier will get it. I think that this was talked about in the other thread about the program: http://www.expatriatecafe.com/forums/index.php/topic,2148.90.html

Good luck to everyone!

If I'm repeating anything, bare with me...I didn't feel like reading all of the posts! lol  I'm not sure about the "admitada" as mine says "no tiene solicitudes", but the consulate general guy emailed me confirming he had received everything except that I had forgotten to sign it.  As for the ACCEPTANCE notice, I found this guy's blog where he posted the EMAIL they send you.  I can't remember where I found it, but I do remember they sent it on the 30th!  (Then again, I also read somewhere on here where a girl received hers on the 1st).  Who knows...

Recieved an email from profex today saying:

Dear Candidate,
We would like to remind you that Admitida now means that your application is complete but you are on the waiting list. The applications will continue to be assigned on a first come first served basis according to future vacancies. Please do not contact us inquiring about your status on the waiting list. The waiting list starts with application numbers above 1735 and the list goes on to application number 3000+. There is no time limit on when a wait listed candidate can be pulled as it is totally dependent on other candidates declining their grant. We apologize for the confusion with the terminology. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
