Hey!  I'm from Colorado originally but I'm just finishing up school at the Unversity of Connecticut.  I have a habit of moving east so I hope that it continues and I'll be in Spain!  Good luck to everyone!

I'm from Portland, Oregon.  So I do know where Tacoma is BrandinhoGaucho ;)   I lived in Mexico for 8 months last year, but I've never been to Europe.  I'm really hoping that I'll be able to change that :)

Hi, not sure whether i´ve already posted this before checking errors or not, so apologies if so - here´s the edited version - thanks,
CADIZ CHICA

Hola, just wanted to wish everyone of you here ´buena suerte´for the coming week!

jldedecker - get studying!!  Best wishes for great exam results - think of this period of study and exams as a necessary part of the process designed to move you forward to where you really want  and need to be - the future will be all the sweeter when you know you´ve earned it through sheer hard graft - Spain´s not going anywhere - at least not in the next week, so prioritise your studies and then bienvenido a todos!

Nos vemos  - muy pronto!

I'm originally from upstate NY, Albany area, but I live in NYC. I've been to Spain only once before, and that was two summers ago when I lived in Segovia for a month, and took trips to Madrid and Barcelona while there.

I'm "from" Salisbury, but I went to Campbell, and seeing as how you're from Raleigh, I'm sure you know where that is! :P  I was born in Raleigh, but grew up for the most part in Johnstown, PA, and then moved in NC when I was 11 or 12.  I studied in Granada in 2007 and did an internship in Alcobendas/ Madrid this past summer and I've been dying to go back ever since!  I LOVE Spain and I can see myself making it my permanent home one day. :D

So let me please just say that I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK TO SPAAAINN!!!!  And I'm going to do it one way or another! lol  Here's to hoping we find out soon!

I'm from New Hampshire (the Lake Sunapee region), but moved to Huntsville, Alabama for college... and stayed.

I spent a total of nine weeks in Spain during high school, and several weeks in Italy.  More recently, I spent a summer (/S. Amer. winter) in Argentina, and a week in Central America...

Soooo anxious to find out!!!

I'm from Columbus, Ohio and graduated from college in May '08.  And barring a half-day excursion in Mexico during a horribly boring cruise vacation when I was 14, I have never been to a Spanish-speaking country, or Europe for that matter.

There's a new Boletin de Noticias...  http://www.educacion.es/exterior/usa/es/publicaciones/bn/portada.shtml

It mentions on Page 10:  "La cifra obtenida de inscripción de candidatos asciende a 2.597, lo que supone un incremento de un 50% con respecto a la campaña anterior."  No mention of when they'll let us know anything... but that makes competition seem more fierce than in past years...  (I'm freaking out a bit.  If they're accepting 1,700 people, then about 900 of us aren't going, right?!  Do any of you have back-up plans?)   :/

There are also a couple little profiles of people that did the program this year (08-09), which are very cute, but make me want to do the program EVEN MORE (if that were even possible)...  So, perhaps don't look at them, if you're already going crazy too.  LOL.

I'm from Seattle, and if you actually know Washington then I'm really from Tacoma. As far as Europe goes, my experience is fairly limited to Galicia except for a few trips here and there to Madrid, Segovia, and Porto.

I'm from Seattle too! I am just finishing up my last year at UW and am hoping to get placed in Barcelona.. good luck to all! hopefully we'll find out soon!

Hello all,
I'm from Long Beach, NY but right now living in NYC.  Graduated in 2005, currently working full-time but volunteering as an ESL teacher.
Patiently waiting for an answer though...

Ooooh, I do not like those odds.  Way lower than they used to be / were supposed to be!  I know my application is complete but I turned it in right at the deadline and I know it's first come first serve.... Luckily I do have a back-up plan but it's not nearly as cool as Spain!!

Another business day has ended in Spain and no news...  Buena suerte a todos mañana.

Hi Everyone!  By any chance, did anyone have to change their password when they tried to log onto Profex???  I think the sign-in page has changed...I'm a little confused because it told me to change my password when I tried to log on to check status.

Thanks!!

Still no word on my end, getting more anxious with every hour. Some poor Taiwanese banker nearly lost his head yesterday because he accidentally overcharged me for changing some currency and I was super on-edge.

I have officially gone into incredibly nervous mode! AHHHHHHHH  I keep saying it, but it would be nice to know one way or another.  I have a few back up ideas, but no definite plans. UGH!  If I don't get this I'll probably end up being a flight attendant so I can at least visit Spain. *sigh*

LBLAX -- My backup plan is just to keep living in the city where I am for university.  Many of my college friends will still be here for a grad program, and I have a great job that I love and that pays the bills plus some.  I'd just hang here for another year or so (whatever my new lease would be) and save cash.  I know I'd be happier exploring Spain and continuing to learn etc etc, but I also know I'd be totally fine here.  I'll have good people around and I even have a possible roommate lined up, so I'm not worried about being alone when everyone leaves after school.  I'm definitely going to grad school, but that's not for a few years down the line.  I just want a happy, interesting life in between!

So the Facebook group says a few individuals have found out without the list being posted on Profex.

Does anyone know if they tend to send out ALL the individual emails/letters/notifications BEFORE posting the complete list?  That would seem to make more sense, if they're going through everyone one-by-one.  Anyone with past years' experience have insight?

Also, I'm with coconnell doing finals work again and she's freaking out 5x as much as I am.  Dear coconnell, relax. :):)

Just got an email about being accepted to Andalucia! In case anyone is curious it says:

Ha sido adjudicada la plaza en <DESC_CENTRO> - Andalucía - España a su solicitud 09_XXXXXXXXXX del programa de Auxiliares de Conversación. Si desea renunciar a esta plaza comuníquelo lo antes posible a mercedes.vidal@mec.es

Not much info, but I'll take what I can get!

So I just got an email basically saying absolutely nothing!  In a nutshell, they told me that I should know by May 15th at the latest, but then again, it could be after May 15th. UGH.  This does absolutely nothing to ease my mind.  On the bright side, I haven't been rejected and it wasn't exactly saying I've been wait listed either.

I got the email too...  five minutes after the other one. It was a little confusing!

I think they are just trying to cover their butts because they are so late with the responses. Besides, I have a feeling a lot of people have been contacting the program looking for more information.

I also think that they date you applied corresponds with when you find out. Seems like they are just working through all of the applications and updating as they go. Good luck!

I just got an email saying I was adjudicada en Madrid! I got my application in pretty early (I think January 14th to be exact).  So I'm almost positive they're staying true to their "first come, first serve" policy.

I just got my email from Profex - Adjudicada for Andalucia - same as the one that Samma posted above.

I applied in early January, so it seems that outofhabit might be right about them first notifying the people who applied early.

Also, just to make a note of it, the Adjudicada has not yet been reflected on the profex site when I go to consulta solicitudes - it still says Admitida.

I can't say I've been especially nervous or anxious until now. I get all kinds of spam about how to improve my sex life and where to buy cheap narcotics, so I doubt that the MEPSYD's email hasn't made it through the junk mail filters. I'm pretty sure they just haven't sent one yet. My app was received and admitted in early-mid February... I feel like I should have an idea by now.

BTW, congrats to those who already know!!

"La cifra obtenida de inscripción de candidatos asciende a 2.597"

Do you think this means that 2,597 people were declared inscrita or 2,597 people applied?  Because that may be a big difference.

I looked at the 2008 figures, and there were roughly 2300 adjudicados... are they only admitting 1700 because of budget cuts, or are they just telling us that to keep us awake at night???

Also, greetings to everyone and congratulations to those who have made it already!  I have been reading the forum for a while now and never got around to signing up...

I didn't hear about the program until mid-March, so hopefully I'll be hearing something soon.  I also forgot to sign my paper so it delayed my being "inscripted" a bit! :S  When I looked at the listed of aceptados, it looked as if quite a few people have "renuciado", so there is hope!!!

New rule! When you find out, post the following:

1. Where you're going (obviously)
2. When you applied
3. What your top 3 choices were

Think about how GRATEFUL next year's group will be to have this documented! (Not to mention this year's...)

SUERTE!

jordan I´m in the same boat... congrats to all those who´ve been put out of their misery. I was told by the NY consulate as of april 6  they only had 1200 apps in so this new number of 2500 must include incomplete apps... it was in the spanish bulletin and possibly they´re exaggerating their numbers... hopefully

I hope you're right that they're exaggerating, Cursive!  I'm trying to forget about the numbers - I'm sorry I even looked at that news bulletin... except that Claire & Ryan's blog is very cute:  http://www.claireryan-spain.blogspot.com/

I can't believe all these people are finding out! Do you think I even have a chance?? I applied Late March and got admitted early April. This is too stressful!

De acuerdo! I applied basically as late as you possibly could. Freaking out. I hope they don't make us sit and stew too long.
