I just turned in my application for the program run by the Ministry of Education and Science. I know this program pays about EUR630/month. My top choice was Madrid, because a good friend of mine lives there. So I figure if I get my top choice, I can stay with her until I find a long-term living situation (I'll be selling my car to cover first month's rent and deposit, though).

But my second and third choices are where I don't know anyone. They are Extremadura and Islas Canarias. So how do I get started if I end up in one of these places? Should I stay in a hostel, or does the school or MEC help you with the transition?

I also like to ride my bike and play intramural sports. While I imagine finding a bike group is easy, will I be able to find a co-ed or all female club for kickball (I know that's a long shot) or basketball where the players are more about having fun than annihilating the opposing team?

Also, when does the school year start there? I was told that the program starts in October, but I was almost certain that the school year started mid-to-late September.

Also, what if I get there and decide I want to stay longer? I read the article about extending your time in the MEC program, but are there any other options (short of marrying a Spaniard, because I have none lined up)?

Hi Pietti,
Welcome to the board. I'm a bit confused by your post since the application for the deadline, though extended, was back in June. There is a whole section of the Employers Post Job Opportunities board dedicated to the program. Check it out, and definitely get in touch if you have further questions.
