08/09 Lang and cultural assistants in Sevilla
« on: July 23, 2008, 09:25:21 PM »

 Hello all,

I will be in Sevilla this fall and would like to get as much information as possible about the program and the experience in general. As well as find out in advance who my fellow assistants are in the area.

What should I know before I leave? What are the most common mistakes for a first time assistant in Spain? Who else is going to Sevilla? Should you wait until you physically receive your visa before buying the plane ticket? How in the world do you go about finding an apartment &/or roommates from the states? Do you get the grant money at the beginning of every month or at the end? ...and has anybody been to Los Morales?

THANKS, Char

Hello Charmarie,

I received your private message but thought best to answer you here in case others can benefit from the information.

Utrera, as far as I could find out, is a village outside of Seville. I found this interesting website: http://www.pueblos-espana.org/andalucia/sevilla/utrera/

If Morales, Seville is the same as Los Morales, check here: http://www.in-andalucia.com/sp/guia_andalucia/provincias/sevilla/morales.htm

Unfortunately, I don't know Seville all that well...or Andalucia for that matter. However one of our forum Moderators covers the Seville area. I am sure she will pop in when she gets the chance to answer your questions.

Regarding where to live, take a look at www.idealista.com, www.loquo.com and www.segundamano.es.

They all have rental listings that can be tailored to Seville. That should help you get started.

As far as your question about what you should know....hmmmm ... definitely read the article on the main page of Expatriate Café. It was written by Stacey who is an language assistant in the Seville area.

Keep posting your questions! Also, rather than posting them all in the Language Assitant forum, look at the other categories on the forum website and post them there...just don't double post.

Responses are a little slow right now because we are in the summer months and many people are on vacation...

Take care and feel free to write with any more questions!

Saludos,
Rebecca

Hi Sevilla people!

I know this is a long shot but hey why not just ask!!!

I have been assigned to Islas Baleares but I currently live in Sevilla with my boyfriend and I was hoping not to move. For any one who has been assigned to Andalucia (Sevilla - Huelva area or any pueblo within an hour of the city) and is open to going to one of the Islas Baleares and would consider switching with me for Islas Baleares - sun, sand and beach - please let me know!

**** If anyone is interested in switching with me - my family has a fully furnished vacant apartment in Mallorca - a block off the beach - willing to negotiate switching regions for dirt cheap rent in large 3 bedroom - 2 bathroom apartment 1 block off the beach!!! ****
