coming over to spain
« on: December 11, 2002, 09:10:00 PM »
Hi can anyone give me any help please? We are in the process of planning our move to Spain somewhere between Benidorm and Javea. There will be 4 adults and 1 child of 11. I need to sort out about his education and I can\'t seem to find any information regarding which is the best school to send him to. I have heard there are both Spanish schools and English schools. Can anyone tell me if I choose an English school whether I will have to pay fees (that\'s not a problem I just need to work out budgets etc). Also has anyone had a similar experience with their child/children? How quickly did they settle and make friends? I would be grateful for any assistance anyone can give me on this. We are coming out in January to sort some things out and I would like to make a start on securing him a place at a school at that time.

Adios all and felices navidad

Hi.  If you move to Javea you\'ll be in my neck of the woods.  The two English language schools are Lady Elizabeth and XIC which is Xabia International.  Both are excellent and teach GCSE.  Lady Elizabeth is school uniform and XIC is more laid back and the people I know with kids in XIC are thrilled with it.  I went to their Christmas fayre last weekend.

That\'s the good news.  Bad news is that both have long waiting lists though if your kid has excellent reports and interviews well you may be able to get him or her in sooner.  Both are fee paying but the fees are far less than in England.

The Spanish schools are also very good but I\'d suggest that 11 is a bit too old to put them into unless they are already fluent.  Also bear in mind that the Spanish schools teach in Valenciano and only one in Javea teaches in Spanish.

If you go the Spanish school route then you register at your town hall.  The child has to see a doctor who will deem them fit and well to attend school and you are told which school to go to.

I\'ve heard of a very good one in Benitaxell which is also called Benitchell in Spanish but that\'s for younger ones.

I know lots of parents here who are very happy but don\'t know any of 11 who are fresh over and in the Spanish system.

Feel free to send me a private message on here if you want any more details.[addsig]
