How Much Money?$?
« on: December 04, 2002, 11:40:00 PM »
Hi! I was very excited to stumble across this board!  I studied in Granada in 96 and have been wanting to move back ever since, but I never thought it was the right time. I have been working for a few years, and my career is not where I want it to be.  So I decided that now is the time.  I am looking to move and do the ITC program in Madrid at the end of April. I do have a friend that I can live with for the 1st month (during the training program). He lives in Chueca. I do have some savings, but not a lot.  How much money do I really need to make it in Madrid. ( I know the more the better....) But what would the minimum be?

Thanks for all your help!!!![addsig]

Welcome on board, i guess i´m the first to answer you this morning. So about the money, you got 3 types of expenses during your stay in Spain - fees for: accomodation, food and personal expenses. To find how much would the accomodation cost ya in Madrid, go to [!-- BBCode auto-link start --][a href=\"http://www.multimadrid.com\" target=\"_blank\"]www.multimadrid.com[/a][!-- BBCode auto-link end --], plus you will see how things really are with finding a place to live in this city. I´m not based in Madrid, but i was planning to move there then gave up, but mas o menos 300 euros per month. (depends). The money you might need for food would be like at least 200 euros per month, then again, depends on how much you eat. And your personal expenses - spend as much as you can and want. Well, in short that is............  [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_nod.gif\"]

I usually tell people to bring with them about $600-$700 a month, which makes out to be about $7500. for 1 year. Seriously, that\'s not a lot of money, all things considered. Estimate about $300 for monthly rent, $200 for food and spending, and about $100 for transportation.

**Remember though, that doesn\'t include your RT airfare (about $500) OR your security deposit on an apt. IF you don\'t share (which is usually 2+ months due at inception: about $700), a cell phone, ??? (ask Jeremy at [!-- BBCode auto-link start --][a href=\"http://www.multimadrid.com\" target=\"_blank\"]www.multimadrid.com[/a][!-- BBCode auto-link end --]) or any other emergency cash you may need.

The good news?? That calculation doesn\'t include the possibility that you\'ll be earning money!!!

Thank you Tracy! I really appreciate your insight.  I have been all over all of the boards over the past week or so and have been finding them extremely informative. I do feel fortunate that I do have an open ended RT ticket & a place to live for free for at least the first 2 months. (A good Spanish friend that I met in 96)

My target date to move is April 25th to start the ITC program on April 27th.

Out of all the TEFL programs in Spain, which do you think is the best???

Thanks again![addsig]
