Finding a job in Barcelona
« on: November 13, 2002, 02:47:00 AM »
I have been reading about the Brighton and Opening thing, and it makes me wonder about the job situation for Americans in Barcelona as I am moving there in February.  I don\'t care if I teach English or become a tour guide, or what, I just want to know if I am going to be able to find a job without a college degree (I have been working as an Architect/Engineer for 6 years). One advantage I will have over most English speakers there is the fact that I will have Spanish Citizenship. Does anyone have any insight to this?[addsig]

I never had a college degree when I taught English, fulltime. I was in the process of finishing my degree and I was honest about that when I went for an interview. I think MOST academies realize that there\'s some purpose of education involved in Americans being over in Spain. And as long as you have actual teaching experience, you should be fine. I had had 5 years tutoring ESL to college students in NJ. But I had no degree and no *teaching* experience. Only tutoring.

Thanks for the reply Tracy, I technically don\'t have citizenship yet, but because my wife is Spanish, we were told I can claim dual citizenship. At the very least, I will be legal with a work visa. [addsig]
