Missing BCN
« on: October 26, 2002, 12:02:00 AM »
hi everyone,

I had the opportunity to spend 2001-2002 in Barcelona studying Spanish and history. I love the city. now that I am back in Orange County I am making plans to make my way back to the land of Gaudi. I am graduating with a BA in December and hopefully I can go back to Spain in August.  I wished I would have known about this website when I left but I am enjoying it right now. To all of you who are in Barcelona right now, you\'re the luckiest people and take advantage of it.  Don\'t forget to shop at Zara and H&M when rebaixas come and if you\'re looking for a gym DIR is the place to join.  I guess like everyone here I am looking for a job too. Oh yeah anyone watching the new Operacion Triumfo? How\'s la nueva academia? Keep posting, I love reading your stories.

Where is DIR? I go to Club Alfa 5, but I want to find one that may be closer to my home. Barcelona is great isn\'t it? Last time I was in Barcelona was when they were finishing up the first Operacion Triunfo, when Rosa, Chenoa and Bisbal won. That was the most amazing thing I had ever seen to watch so many Spaniards go nuts over one show. I did end up getting the Chenoa CD, which is fantastic by the way, and I have been told that the Bisbal CD is good too. Anyways, enough reminiscing, I\'m getting homesick! It just reminds me that I have 97 days left till I return, and that is 96 days too many.[addsig]

Well depands on where you are going to live in BCN. i went to the one in maragall, but there\'s one in Psg. Gracia, Hospital de San Paul. Just go in one of the clubs and ask for a list of their clubs.  I still smile when i remeber 1st time in DIR...they dont believe in AC so you sweat and sweat... Yeah i left BCN in Aug. and so i was there for Eurovision...had the party and my girlfriends and I went nuts every Monday night at 22:00 having our OT party.  Loved the Chenoa CD and Bisbal is good too.  I found some Catalanes at my school and so i keep up with my Spanish and try to organize to go back there maybe in Sept.  let me know what Dir you choose.  are you working in BCN?

hasta pronto

Chenoa didn\'t win!!! David Bustamante did! Sorry, gotta be supportin\' my northerners... Cantabria!! [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif\"]

Chenoa placed 4th, followed by Manu and Vero.

I wasn\'t too impressed by Chenoa\'s CD... I think she has a gorgeous voice and it was wasted on the majority of the songs. I think music wise, the best of the OT solo CDs was Nuria\'s and production wise, Bustamante\'s. Actually... everyone except Bustamante got a pretty cheap looking CD and it\'s pretty sad. Rosa deserved so much better and it\'s awful the way they\'ve treated her. sigh... I hope she can bounce back and release a CD with the music that SHE chooses.

I was such an addict while I was in Spain... Voted for Rosa and Busta every week LOL    I was too torn to choose!!

Chenoa placed 4th,

Yes, Technically she did place fourth, but can you say there were any losers in this show before 5th place? They got cars, they got record contracts, it was practically even.

This I agree with, I think the songs were kind of teenie-bopping type songs, but the voice is awesome.

I haven\'t heard any of the other full CD\'s. Just what I hear on los 40 principales. But so far, they don\'t sound bad.

I didn\'t care for the show personally while I was there, but some of the music has impressed me and the show there is far superior to the American Idol they had here. I felt that there was much more of a talent pool as compared to the US version.

Zerovero, I\'m  not in BCN yet, I\'m moving back in February.

Well actually I thought the top 5 and the 7th one all had wonderful voices. But there were only three winners and I was VERY excited and cried when my two favorites were chosen as them! The 3 other finalists got their cars and every single person on the show got a recording contract... although some of them REALLY didn\'t deserve it. Like Juan. How did he even pass AUDITIONS??

Chenoa\'s CD, to me, was one of the worst (of the people who had voices). Nuria\'s is my favorite - but I also prefer balada to dance. Bisbal\'s is very good as well (but cheaply produced) and if you\'re in the US, it was just released here and comes with an hour and a half of DVD footage. I got it for only $12!

Basically OT has become my way of keeping in touch with Spain, besides reading El Pais every day. And I\'ve made some wonderful friends throughout the country through my interest in OT including a very good friend in Madrid who has promised to help me out if I decide to move there. Right now she\'s trying to convince me to come for a week in December to visit her and see Busta in concert... I\'m starting to wear down just because I miss Spain so much!

I hated American Idol. I couldn\'t watch more than 10 minutes of each episode... I kept waiting for it to get interesting every week, but it never did. The people had attitudes and thought they were famous and already established. My roommate became obsessed with it (I think this might have triggered my renewed interest in OT - I had to cleanse my mind of AI) and it culminated with her forcing me to see them in concert on Sunday. It wasn\'t as bad as it was on TV... the girls could sing for the most part - but the men were AWFUL. Only one of them really had any kind of stage presence and he didn\'t have a great voice. I miss Spain...
