Spanish Courses In 'sustainability'
« on: July 16, 2006, 03:28:31 AM »
Hi all,
Sorry, but I can't find a niche for this topic, so I'm putting it here, in the hope that Tony will find an appropriate space for it, somewhere on this Forum!
I'm moving to Asturias, Northern Spain, this Summer, from the U.K.
I'm going to be living in a small village, close to a great project called Ixuxu - it's an ecological initiative, whereby a small number of people, some Spanish, some from other places, have set up a farm which aims to demonstrate the benewfits of pernaculture and organic growing, to Asturian schoolchildren and to adults in the Oviedo area.  The group has helped to save and promote rare- breed Asturcon ponies as well as Asturian sheep - I'm going to assist with these animals in my free time, whilst teaching English in Oviedo- once I find work - to earn a living.   (The farm's only ten minutes from the city by train, which is amazing, considering it's in the Picos foothills1).

Hi all,

Sorry - my first message took off, of its own volition, before I'd completed it, so my typing errors remain!

Anyway, to continue  -'Ixuxu' runs various 'sustainability' short courses for Spanish speakers, so, if you're interested in the issues of 'environmentalism' and are willing to live, for a few days, in tented accomodation with vegetarian food - or else, to book accommodation somewhere in Oviedo and travel to the farm daily, there are some great opportunities to meet like- minded others and to be tutored by some of the leading names in this field.

The courses are advertised on the following websites and, hopefully, I'll soon be there, myself - looking for teaching vacancies or private students and learning how to work with the animals in my spare time!  Fortunately, two other volunteer helpers have just returned from teaching in China, so, I'm looking forward to their experiences!

Please help to spread the word about this very important project - the issues it's addressing are of great significance to us all!  Asturian schools are certainly very keen to support the farm camps by sending their students along to gain practical experience in 'environmentally friendly' farming techniques and to learn more about their native rare -breed animals, some of which almost died out, during Franco's regime!

If you do book any courses, I'd love to hear from you and to meet up, once there -   please tell Finian - course co-ordinator - I sent you!!

Hasta luego,

Hey there, Z.S.! I thought I'd move the thread over here as it probably fits well in this forum. Great initiative by the way!  B) Please keep us posted as to how it's coming along.

I've made your links dynamic so people can click on them... Best of luck! And...I know I've said it before but... you're going to love Asturias! B)

poseso.... Tony
