student visa
« on: October 11, 2002, 11:41:00 AM »
Hi there guys,

i´m about to apply for student visa based on a spanish course i will attend. A lot of things have gone through my head, but do you think there is a chance the spanish consular issue a student visa for attending an intensive spanish course 5 hours a day for over 9 months?

I just want some fresh and different opinions on this subject.

Thanks...[addsig]

I do believe you must be attending a class for 20 hours a week for at least 3 months at an OFFICIAL State (country) University or school.

Below I\'ve cut and pasted the requirements, the most important being:

"enrollment as a full-time student in an official University or School in Spain, and verification of full payment of tuition. This is not the letter of acceptance that says: "congratulations you have been accepted....." This must be a separate letter directed to this Consulate General of Spain, verifying your enrollment and payment of tuition."

Here are the remaining RULES:

Personal appearance is required if you live in New York City in order to submit the documentation. We understand that this is difficult for some students, but this regulation can only be waived if a student\'s parent presents the application in place of the student.

Applications can also be submited by mail  in some cases but you must mail or fax this request (212/644-3751) along with your name an address so we can  mail you all the necessary forms.

Passport valid for a minimum of 6 months. Make sure your passport is signed.

4 recent pictures, passport size (stapled on each copy of the application). No senior pictures cut down to size or photocopies of other pictures, these must be passport photos.

Original letter addressed to this Consulate General verifying enrollment as a full-time student in an official University or School in Spain, and verification of full payment of tuition. This is not the letter of acceptance that says: "congratulations you have been accepted....." This must be a separate letter directed to this Consulate General of Spain, verifying your enrollment and payment of tuition.

If you are not a citizen of the United States, bring your “green card” or student visa and I-20 form.

Original medical certificate typed on doctor´s stationary verifying that the applicant is free from the following quarantine diseases: yellow fever, cholera, and the plague. The certificate must also certify that the applicant is free of drug addictions and mental illness. These items must be specified and the letter must be signed by a Medical Doctor.

Original certificate of good conduct issued by the police department of the city or cities in which the applicant has spent 6 months or more during the last 5 years.

For U.S. Passport holders the processing fee is $45.00 payable only by MONEY ORDER. For other nationalities the fee is $51.30 payable by MONEY ORDER only .

You must also submit one of the following items to guarantee living expenses while in Spain:

Letter from the study abroad program assuming full financial responsibility for tuition, room and board for the student during his stay in Spain. This letter must mention that you will be elegible for a credit towards your Bacherlor´s Degree or Associated Degree. For many students this information is included on the previously mentioned letter of acceptance.

$350.00 worth of travelers checks per month of stay in Spain.

An account in a Spanish bank with a minimum balance of $350.00 per month of stay in Spain.

Proof of having received financial aid or scholarship covering expenses for tuition, room, board, and personal expenses during the stay in Spain (minimum of $350 per month).

Notarized letter from parents assuming full financial responsibility for the student for at least $350 per month of stay in Spain.

YOU MUST SUBMIT TWO (2) PHOTOCOPIES OF ALL THE DOCUMENTS PRESENTED

Applications will not be accepted more than 90 days in advance or less than 4 weeks prior to departure date, passports must be left at this Consulate General for processing. Take into consideration any holidays there might be. It may take four weeks or longer to process your application. You will be advised of the processing time when you apply.
