Defying The Ugly American
« on: June 23, 2006, 07:32:34 PM »
Hello Everyone!

On my quest to find interesting teaching material, I stumbled across a fascinating website: Business for Diplomatic Action.

On this website, there is a great pamphlet that gives some good basic information and pointers on how to become a good world citizen and to help erase that Ugly American perception that exists around the world. The brochure is free and downloadable in a PDF file. You can go to the website itself, or download it here:

It's a quick read and one that I encourage all new teachers headed for Spain to download. If you know someone who is headed overseas this summer, why not encourage them to do the same?

Saludos,
Rebecca

Wow Rebecca... This is powerful. I hope that all of you that are planning to travel outside of the US take some time to read this and reflect upon it. It has some fantastic advice in it.

Along those lines, I always found it interesting that I really started learning how to speak Spanish and understand the Spanish culture better when I finally began to shut up and listen to everyone else more effectively! My wife especially enjoyed that part of my learning curve.... the shutting up, that is!  ;)  :P
