extending my stay in Spain
« on: September 27, 2002, 05:47:00 PM »
Guys,

i´m going to the local police on Monday to ask for permission to stay in Spain for 9 months. I´m here on my 3 months non-visa visit. I´m supposed to attend spanish course in here and i have a lot of documents i will bring with me on monday to the police, but i´m still too nervous about this all, so i needed to tell to somebody. do you have any suggestions, ideas or anything i should know before i go to the police? I know there are guys with a lot of experience in this area, so any thoughts are helpful.

Thanks a lot ....

Pretty dramatic move. I guess your luck depends on your excuse for wanting to stay, your nationality, and if you\'re assertive enough (not aggressive!). They\'ll probably tell you to get lost the first time you try. But maybe if you kept going back they\'d take you seriously.

You should know beforehand that it\'s a rare circumstance to extend a visa. So, be prepared for rejection. It is done! Just not often.

Good luck![addsig]

Sir,

i was refused an extension this morning. [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif\"]

Anyway, he told me i should go back to my country and apply for student visa.

Therefore, i met a guy today who told me they would never extend my 3 months non-visa residencia with 6 months. But he told me to ask for extension at the end of every 3 months with another 3 months, what ya think???? Actually, i came to Spain only to learn the language fast, but they would never issue me a student visa for this. So i am supposed to go through all this hell. Any thoguhts are welcome again.

Like many other expats, I\'m going to wing it with my guaranteed 90 day visa.  One way to extend you stay is to maybe leave for either France or Morocco, or some other sovereign country for a few days every three months.  On the brighter side, it will give you an excuse to travel a little more.

Another thing, if your passport has not been stamped upon entry, there should be nothing to worry about.  Shouldn\'t there? [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif\"] [addsig]
