Working On Tourist Visa
« on: August 01, 2005, 02:58:35 PM »
Hola a todos!

I am an Australian and I am planning to travel to Spain next year hopefully to live there for 6 months and study spanish. I have looked into getting a student visa but I have given up on that idea because I dont want to be committed to one school for 6 months and I dont want to have to pay the full amount upfront.

My other option is of course the tourist visa. From reading through the posts, it seems that extending my tourist visa to 6 months should not be much of a problem. The only problem that I see is working on the tourist visa.

I have heard that it is considered a bad thing to be working on the tourist visa whereas working on a student visa is acceptable. Does anyone know anything about the truth in this? I am happy to work in bars, pubs or anything I can find and I am also interested in teaching english.

Will the bars and pubs consider employing me if I am on a tourist visa? Should I be telling them that I am on a tourist visa? If I want to teach english will the schools employ me on the tourist visa? Also, will getting a TEFL certificate improve my chances of getting a job? (ie. is it really worth it?) Should I get the TEFL certificate here where I live, or should I get it there in Spain?

I appreciate any advice that you can offer me. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
