please help me to get my bearings
« on: September 03, 2002, 11:50:00 AM »
Hi

I\'m embarrassed to show my geographical ignorance, but I would be grateful for some assistance to help me to get my bearings in Spain.

As you may know I am moving to the Barcelona region (near Sitges) and was wondering how far places were in distance (approx miles and times to get there).

Please could you tell me how far away from Barcelona is:

Madrid (how many miles and approx time to get there by car)

Bilboa (as above)

Costa Del sol (as above)

Pyrennees (as above)

Marseille (as above)

Valencia (as above)

Many thanks...as always your help is appreciated and it will help me to get my bearings:o)

Best wishes

Gary wilkinson

Hi Gary...someone else will probably have to help you answer this question, but it reminded me of something a friend once told me about travel-time in Spain:

From Madrid, you can reach any spot in Spain in about 5 hours or less. OK. so I\'m sure you\'re frustrated now!

I recommend that you use the [!-- BBCode Start --][A HREF=\"http://www.guiacampsa.com/eng/infinito/gcampsa/ruta/calcular/itinerario.asp\" TARGET=\"_blank\"]Guia Campsa[/A][!-- BBCode End --] website. They have a travel-planning facility that can help you with your questions. Here\'s a link. Give it a shot and good luck!

Hi Tracy

You were right [IMG SRC=\"modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif\"]

I just checked on the great site that Erica pointed me to and Barcelona was a little over 5 hours from madrid.

Thanks for that tip:O)

Don\'t forget the Spanish trains as well.  They\'re pretty good and very cheap.  Rumour has it they are building a high speed service from Alicante to Malaga which will be great news.

You can also get the ferry from Denia to the Balearics.  Denia is about a 3 hour drive from Barcelona.[addsig]

Gary, you may not know it but mapquest.com offers international driving directions along with route planning and estimated distance times.  I have rented cars several times in Spain and have used that site before leaving the states to print out maps, driving distance, and directions.  Check it out![addsig]
