Teacher Training Opportunities
« on: January 17, 2005, 12:34:18 PM »
Hello Everyone --

I thought I would let you know that TESOL Spain, the professional English teachers' association, is hosting a day of conferences here in Madrid on February 4th. Registration is really cheap 5€ for preregistration (deadline is Jan. 28th) or 10€ at the door for TESOL Spain members. If you aren't a member, you may join TESOL Spain by logging onto their website.

I have uploaded the schedule of seminars to be presented. Looks like there is some good material being presented.

If you are interested in receiving a registration form and more information about it, contact Kate Marriage, the Madrid coordinator, at katemarriage@telefonica.net.

Hope to see you there!

Hi Everyone --

I have changed the name of this thread to better reflect the contents.

Feel free to post here any ongoing professional development opportunities that you are aware of around Spain.

This thread is NOT for discussing TEFL/Celta certification options

Thanks!

Hiya Rebecca --- I am posting this here because I wasn't sure where else to put it.

I could have sworn I saw some sort of training program being advertised by the British Language Center in Madrid for Business English teachers, but can't remember where I saw it or when.

Do you know anything about it?

Hi Megan,

Thanks for posting that information. You beat me to the punch! Do you know if you have to show proof that you are an English teacher in Madrid, and if so, what? :)

edit:

Ok, I have been in touch with Alistair at the British Language Centre and asked several questions which are listed below with the answers. I hope that some of you will be able to take advantage of these training sessions!

Is there a limited number of participants?

There will be a max. of 20 places on each course. At the moment we are
advertising the Tues & Thurs course, but there is a lot of demand so we shall
soon begin advertising a Mon & Wed course, same times & around the same
dates.

When is the enrollment deadline?

First come first serve until we fill.

Will the participants receive any kind of accreditation or certificate for participating?

Yes, they'll receive an ACADE certificate of attendance.

Must the participants possess a TEFL, TESOL or CELTA training cert.  in order to attend?

No stipulations on experience or qualifications. However, it is being
financed by INEM & participants must have a current working contract & if
'autonoma' they must have 'profesor' as the activity.

Will you be re-running this program in the future?

Possibly - this depends on how much money ACADE have to devote to
training.

Hi Everyone -

Did anyone attend the TESOL-Spain Madrid training day?

If you did, it would be great if you could post some feedback / highlights of the training sessions.

I will be heading down to Seville in two weekends for the national TESOL-Spain convention and will be posting feedback.

Is anyone else planning on attending?

Hi Gang --

Well, I am still bleary-eyed (and it's Tuesday!) from the intense and very interesting TESOL Spain Annual Conference in Seville over the weekend.

I will be writing up a more detailed to report to share with all of you, but just thought I would post some of the key elements that I saw. This year was my first time to attend the conference. Those who attended got a certificate of attendance for the 20 hours of sessions that were provided over 2.5 days (Friday - Sunday).

The key buzzwords that I heard thrown around a lot and saw represented in the sessions were things such as blended learning, authentic materials, and learner autonomy to name a few. I am certain if you pop those terms into a search engine and couple with something like \"language instruction\" or \"ESL\" you will come up with a whole host of resources, articles and information.

The 2006 conference will be held in Madrid, so for those of you who are Madrid based and the distance to Seville kept you from attending this year, it is definitely something to look forward to!   :)

Hello Everyone --

I just got an email today from Kate Marriage announcing a local (Madrid) teacher development session being sponsored by TESOL Spain in November.

The intended audience is for Primary and Secondary school English teachers and/or those who work with children. As always, you must be a member of TESOL Spain to participate. Membership in TESOL Spain is a nominal 25€ a year. Check their website for more details.

I have uploaded the flyer for the November 12th training session. Feel free to download it and share it with your teaching colleagues, your TEFL school, the academy where you teach, etc. Who knows, maybe the academy where you teach will pay your membership dues into TESOL Spain. Can't hurt to ask!

¡Saludos!

Hi There Teachers!

So, did any of you attend the teacher development conference this past weekend here in Madrid?

If so, would you like to write up a brief summary of the day's events?

Be sure to check back on this thread for other teacher training opportunities around Spain!
